Structuring Distributed Real-time Systems

نویسنده

چکیده

This document presents a summary of the issues involved in supporting time critical functions (e.g. multi-media services and connection setup), in telecommunications information networks and in particular how these relate to the choice of both operating system and middleware for distribution. The aim of the document is to provide an introduction to various ANSA technical reports which contain a considerable amount of additional detail. To this end, part of the document is organised as a commentary with suitable references. The ANSA technical reports cover the characteristics of distributed real-time systems, the types of mechanism that must be provided by middleware to support such systems and the description of a practical implementation of such extensions in ANSAware.

ساختار دهی آنی داده‌‌های مکانی ورودی GIS با تأکید بر عارضه راه

An important issue in implementation of a GIS system is preparation of data to be entered in GIS. To produce spatial data for GIS using photogrammetric techniques, conventional method is to apply photogrammetric and GIS systems individually (off-line procedure). This approach is costly, time consuming and somehow unreliable due to the fact that 3D photogrammetric model is not available at the ...

Deadline Handling in Real-Time Distributed Objects

Deadline handling is a fundamental part of real-time computing but has been practiced in ad hoc forms for decades. A general framework for systematic deadline handling in real-time distributed computer systems is proposed in this paper. The notions of hard deadlines and hard-real-time program components are discussed along with the advantages of a hard-real-time component based construction app...

Basic Program Structures for Avoiding Priority Inversions

Structuring real-time concurrent programs in the form of groups of fixed-priority processes is an old art which is appropriate for only a small fraction of modern real-time distributed computing application systems. However, it is still practiced on the basis of an insufficient technical foundation. One of the basic issues in using the fixed-priority process structuring approach is to avoid the...

Exception Handling in Object-Oriented Real-Time Distributed Systems

Exception handling in a complex concurrent and distributed system (e.g. one involving cooperating rather than just competing activities) is often a necessary, but a very difficult, task. No widely accepted models or approaches exist in this area. The object-oriented paradigm, for all its structuring benefits, and real-time requirements each add further difficulties to the design and implementat...

Object-Oriented Structuring of Real-Time Autonomous Decentralized Systems

A promising cost-effective approach to realizing RT ADS's is to use the emerging technology for RT distributed component/object structuring. One such technology being explored by the author and his research collaborators is the the Time-Triggered MessageTriggered Object (TMO) structuring scheme [Kim94, Kim97b]. The TMO scheme is intended to facilitate RT distributed software engineering in a fo...

Real Time Systems: A Tutorial

In this tutorial paper, we introduce a number of issues that arise in the design of distributed real-time systems in general, and hard real-time systems in particular. These issues include time management, process scheduling, and interprocess communications within both local and wide area networks. In addition, we discuss an evaluation, based on a simulation model, of a variety of scheduling po...
